COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for teachers who are interested in implementing Problem Based Learning (PrBL) or Project Based Learning (PBL) into their math or science classrooms. Activities will be geared towards secondary teachers (grades 6-12) interested in PrBL or PBL. Content delivery will simulate a PBL/PrBL environment as participants dive into the research behind PrBL/PBL, identify useful resources for successful implementation, and apply new learning to develop plans and materials for immediate use in the classroom.
PBL and PrBL supports the West Des Moines Mission Statement which states, “it is the mission of the district to educate responsible lifelong learners…..” PBL/PrBL and the use of technology enable students, teachers, and administrators to apply knowledge and thinking in real-world applicable ways, reaching out beyond the classroom, allowing students control over their learning.
